Homework

The homework assigned each evening should serve as a reinforcement and extension of classroom activities and instruction. The children are required to copy homework assignments into a homework binder each day. Parents should sign these homework sheets after assignments have been completed. Homework helps the children develop organization skills and a sense of responsibility. It also keeps parents informed about what we are currently working on in class. Your child will need a quiet work space at home where homework can be completed with minimal distractions. Assist your child with homework only when they need your help to complete it. Homework should be the children's responsibility not the parents.
Homework is checked off in class on a daily basis when it is due. Students who hand their homework in on time each month are invited to ''Lunch Club.'' Lunch Club is held once a month. Children who qualify eat lunch with a small group of students and me during their regular lunch period. Not every child will make Lunch Club each month, but they really enjoy the experience, so it can be very motivating.
If your child is having a difficult time completing homework, or if you are experiencing problems with its completion, please let us know, and we can work together to find a solution.

MISTAKES

''Mistakes are feedback on how we are doing. Winners make far more mistakes than losers. They get more feedback as they continue to try more possibilities.''

We learn far more from our losses than we do from our victories. When we lose, we contemplate, we analyze, we regroup, we plan a new strategy.

Thomas Edison was asked how he felt to have failed so many times in his effort to produce the light bulb. He replied that he had not failed at all, but rather had successfully found thousands of ways how not to make a lightbulb.

Founder of I.B.M., Thomas Watson said, ''The way to succeed is to double your failure rate. The shame is never in having failed, the shame is only in not having tried.''

''Taking children out of their comfort zone to stretch to a level where learning is a challenge and in order to achieve students may need to draw on skills of persistence, initiative, and analysis.'' (author unknown)
